At the door, you’ll see that this place has an “A” rating for cleanliness. But once you step inside, you might wonder whether that certificate was photocopied from somewhere else. It's clean, sure – but... The decor looks like the final hours of a clearance sale at a second-hand shop. And not a particularly good second-hand shop either.
Then you get to the ordering counter and meet the owner. He's a real character. I mean that neutrally – some people will love him, others... maybe not so much.
At this point, like us on our first visit, you might be tempted to turn around and walk out. But wait – keep reading.
Because the food is incredible. Not just for the (relatively) low U.S. prices, but in general. Every single dish we ordered was just fantastic. I've paid double or even triple elsewhere in the U.S. and didn’t get anywhere near this quality. The coffee was great too – and generously sized.
So ignore the questionable interior, take the owner as he is, and enjoy a seriously good breakfast at a more than fair price!

Berkeley Perk is a go to breakfast/lunch spot! Great coffee, really good food, and a warm, friendly atmosphere. Definitely recommend coming here!

We stopped by Berkeley Perk Coffee in the South End because of the glowing Google reviews, but I honestly don’t get the hype. The place feels very old-fashioned, and not in a cool or retro way — just dated. The atmosphere didn’t do much for me, and there’s nothing particularly interesting about the space.

I had a cappuccino, which was fine — solid but nothing memorable. The one bright spot was the guy behind the counter: very friendly and a little offbeat in the best way. Still, that alone doesn’t make up for the overall experience. With Greystone just around the corner, I’d definitely head there instead.

Took the kids here they loved it as much as their parents! Fresh, creative breakfast and lunch options and all the coffee choices you can imagine. Great specials: i had “fancy toast” the truffle oil really made this pop! Service by the owners was friendly and attentive. We’ll be back soon! Feels like home.
